But rather than having Foster leading the vocal charge, Kimbra instead takes these honors — and shines

As for the song’s video? Get prepared to see a super bizarre wrestling match accompanied by Kimbra and a mariachi band. It’s all very artsy, right? However you feel about the video though, one thing is indisputable: Kimbra has officially arrived!

‘America’s Got Talent’ was ONE HOUR last night! ONE HOUR! When was the last time a reality show only ran for one hour instead of a ridiculously bloated two? It was refreshing. Of course, we’ll return to two hours tonight, but one thing at a time. Last night’s hour wasn’t anything particularly special. Howard Stern did make a seven year old rapper cry and we did finally get an act who could actually win this thing, but other than that, it was pretty uneventful.

We’re in New York! There’s a huge crowd outside of Radio City Music Hall to welcome the judges and Howie chants “PEO-PLE” back at those chanting “HOW-IE” at him. I normally don’t like Howie Mandel, but that actually made me chuckle a bit. Let’s talk about some of the acts!

The Flyte Cru are a basketball dunking act. It was sloppy and couldn’t possibly sustain itself over an entire Vegas show, but Howard and Sharon sent them through, so we’ll be seeing this exact same thing at least one more time. There was a young pianist who seemed extremely talented. His parents looked kind of stiff and scary, like the kind of people who were gonna make damn sure their kid would be a good piano player. They probably smack his hand with a ruler or something.
.
Then we had Mir Money, a seven year old rapper who never should have been there. Yes, this kid was cute, but he wasn’t going to make it past the first round. That’s questionable parenting. Howard and Sharon buzzed him and when Howard attempted to explain, the poor kid cried and quite literally broke Howard’s heart. Howard got on stage and attempted to make everything alright, but it didn’t help much and this little kid’s hopes were dashed and Stern questioned whether he was cut out for this. He is.

Sharon flipped out over a dog act and it was actually justifiable. One of the dogs did a backflip!

.

There was a guy named Horse who got kicked in the nuts repeatedly. I don’t know how he does it, but it definitely had an air of ‘Jackass’ to it. Of course, it lacked any of ‘Jackass’’ creativity, but it still made everyone laugh. It also made me think this couldn’t possibly good for this man and it probably shouldn’t be encouraged, but what can you do?

Burton Crane was 72 years old and he did an original rap. It was the overwhelming hit of the episode as the performance had everyone singing along with the song’s refrain of “watcha gonna do?” I don’t think this act has legs, but it was charming enough while it lasted, especially considering it seemed like a joke to start.

Finally, we should talk about Wordspit the Illest who are the first act I think may actually have a shot at winning. Wordspit is a rapper and The Illest are his backing band which consists of everything including a violin. They’re song was pretty good, but the act was excellent. It was accessible and intelligent and these kids seem very nice. The singer in the band who Howard suggested looked like he “kidnapped” the group of kids before asking him if he was their “math teacher,” seemed a bit out of place, but as a whole I really enjoyed this act and I haven’t really been able to say that about any act yet.

We are going back to two hours tonight which is what it is.

“I thought it was important for me to show everything in between,” she told Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show. “Sometimes, people think that we’re perfect, and we know we’re not perfect at all,” Perry continued.

“I think it’s important to start breaking down the idea that to achieve your dream, you have to always be perfect or flawless or live in a fantasy world. So that’s why I decided to put everything into the film, in the most tasteful way.”

Still, fans who are concerned that the film will be a downer shouldn’t worry, because she also explained that “it’s about how I got there and the ride along the way, which can be bumpy, but mostly, it was extremely fun.” Part Of Me will be released on July 5th, but in the meantime, you can listen to some Katy Perry Radio now!

MTV News caught up with Pauly D at the Bamboozle festival and when asked about the beef he responded, “Nah, he’s cool. I’m a fan. I thought it was fun.”

“The Listening Machine” is a six-month project by composer Peter Gregson, sonic artist and programmer Daniel Jone and the Britten Sinfonia Orchestra. Their goal is to craft “live soundtrack to the thoughts, opinions, feelings and conversations of the U.K.’s population, as played out on Twitter.”

The site explains: “The machine is a piece of software that monitors the Twitter activity of 500 people (the team won’t reveal their identity to ensure that the musical outcome is not affected by people becoming aware that they are part of it) selected from eight different fields — arts, business, education, health, politics, science, sport and technology.”
.
“Whenever these people post an update, the properties of the tweet are analyzed in terms of the sound and meaning of the words, and generates music based on it. Many different elements of the music have been prerecorded as individual musical cells, which are then recombined by the generative software.”
.

The group will perform on September 1st in Philadelphia at Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Fairmount Park. Other announced performers include Passion Pit, Dirty Projectors and, of course, Jay-Z himself.

However, we’re expecting many more announcements in the coming weeks, since the festival is expected to feature a total 28 acts. “You know me — I love the show of it,” Jay-Z told Billboard last week. “I will reveal them in time and we’ll do some silly things that no one understands and they’ll figure it out.”
.

Austin City Limits announced its lineup last night, and it looks like a lot of your favorite artists will be heading to Texas in October. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, The Black Keys, Jack White, Florence and The Machine and The Avett Brothers will headline the 11th edition of the festival this year.

Avicii, Bassnectar, The Roots, Iggy & the Stooges, The Shins, Weezer, Gotye, and The Civil Wars will also perform, along with a slew of other artists, most of whom are making their way around the festival circuit this summer. In total, 130 artists are on tap to play the festival.

Austin City Limits will take place October 12-14 in Zilker Park in Austin (obviously). Tickets are available today for ACL e-list subscribers who registered for the pre-sale last week. Information on general ticket sales will be released on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. Early bird tickets are already sold out, but fans will be able to score general admission passes for $200 and single day passes for $90. One year ago, Natassia Zolot, better known as Kreayshawn, erupted onto the hip-hop scene, almost exclusively due to her designer-dropping song and video for breakout song “Gucci Gucci.” That she signed a reported $1 million major-label contract simply goes to show you the power of the viral-video -star making machine in today’s wacky music biz. Now, 12 months and a boatload of press later, as she prepares to drop her debut album, Somethin’ Bout Kreay, in August, we get “Breakfast (Syrup),” the first single off her new LP.

As anyone who has listened to “Gucci Gucci” is likely well aware, Kreayshawn isn’t the most talented of rappers. In fact, the 22-year-old’s flow might just have a turtle laughing. But perhaps that’s her intent? Slow, steady and calculated. “Breakfast (Syrup),” which, as you might expect, hinges on its title topic — “juice, cheese, dough, breakfast,” Kreayshawn raps in the song’s hook before repeating, “I got all the syrup” as maple-y goodness explodes upon a woman’s face — is much of the same that she’s delivered in the past. Ubiquiotous rapper 2 Chainz (literally) pops up  for a guest verse that certainly outshines Kreayshawn. But then again, that’s not exactly the world’s biggest compliment.

So where does this leave us? Kreayshawn has a new album coming out. “Breakfast (Syrup)” is its lead single. The video features a lot of gelatinous substances. Her raps are mediocre at best — but a stellar flow and superb rhythmic stylings were never Kreayshawn’s thing from the start. So, when you break it down, it’s really just Kreay being Kreay. Sean Kingston is back, people! The reggae-pop star recently dropped “Back 2 Life (Live It Up),” the title track off his forthcoming album which is set to be released in July. And the track, a dance-pop cut overrun by skuzzy synths and a menacing beat, features the rap styling of none other than T.I. This isn’t the first time that the two have paired up; the rapper was featured on Kingston’s 2009 cut “Wrap U Around Me” from his sophomore album, Tomorrow. This is something of a comeback for Kingston, who was involved in a horrific jet skiing accident in Miami almost exactly a year ago; he suffered a fractured wrist and broken jaw along with water in the lungs; however, he made a full recovery and was discharged from the hospital just under a month later. Kingston references the accident, and his subsequent comeback, on his new track. “What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger/Know it’s gonna be aright,” he sings. T.I.’s verse also calls attention to something of a new start; the rapper served a recent prison sentence and is making his own return to the game. “Prison didn’t stop me…. when tragedy strikes, I strike back,” he raps.

“Back 2 Life (Live It Up)”, which samples the classic 1989 Soul II Soul new jack swing cut “Back to Life (However Do You Want Me),” is the first single to be released from Kingston’s new album. The album was originally set to feature the singer’s previous singles such as “Eenie Meenie,” Letting Go *(Dutty Love)” and “Dumb Love;” however, he recently told MTV that he would be completely re-doing the album and that the previous singles will not be on it.

It looks like Asia has been torn in its opinion of Lady Gaga. As the pop star arrived in the Philippines for her Born This Way Ball tour, she was greeted by hundreds of protesters calling her and her music “offensive.”
.

The protesters were members of a group called Biblemode Youth Philippines, which hopes to get the singer’s concerts canceled. The country is a primarily Roman Catholic country, and the group feels that Gaga’s music and image are not appropriate. Protest leader Ruben Abante told the Associated Press, “She declared a distorted view toward Jesus Christ and for us Biblical Christians it is offensive. Her music and everything about her is different from what our values are.”

Lady Gaga’s concerts are scheduled for tonight and tomorrow night in Manila and have been approved by the authorities in the Philippines, although there are a few restrictions with that approval. The mayor of Pasay City, part of Metropolitan Manila, said in a statement, “Although we respect artistic and musical expressions, I won’t allow anyone or any group to provide acts which may be questionable in a way at any venue under my jurisdiction. We reminded the producers of Lady Gaga’s concert that the show and the event as a whole shall not exhibit any nudity or lewd conduct which may be offensive to morals and good customs.”

This is not the first stop on Gaga’s current tour that has seen protests. Christian groups complained about her racy lyrics and costumes in Seoul, South Korea, and authorities banned fans younger than 18 from attending the tour’s first performance. Gaga also had to cancel her sold-out June 3 concert in Jakarta, Indonesia because she was denied a concert permit following objections from Islamic hard-liners. So it’s safe to say, her Asian tour has hit a few snags.

So far the shows in Manila are scheduled to go on, although the Biblemode Youth Philippines has been holding vigil near the concert venue since yesterday.

“The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery,” reads a statement posted yesterday. “The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time.”

Clearly, these guys have been chomping at the bit to get this movie off the ground. And who can blame them? You’d be hard pressed to find a more quotable movie from the last decade. The best part about being a celebrity and having the Olympics in your hometown? You will probably get asked to carry the Olympic Torch during the lengthy relay. This weekend, David Beckham and rock band Muse were among those who had the honor of carrying the torch.

The Olympic torch relay started last Thursday in Greece, heralded by Greek actress Ino Menegaki, who had the role of High Priestess during the launch. Beckham, who happened to be in Greece, got to accompany the torch along with the London mayor and Britain’s Princess Anne back to the U.K. on Saturday. There, the torch was lit in Cornwall and has begun its 8,000-mile journey around England, which will include a detour to Ireland’s capital city of Dublin.

One of the lucky torch relay carriers over the weekend was Muse, who are currently working on a new album for release in the fall. Band members Dominic Howard, Matt Bellamy and Christopher Wolstenholme ran with the torch over Sheldon Bridge in their hometown of Devon. Crowds of thousands gathered to watch the band carry the torch, according to BBC News.

Will Smith has been making the rounds to promote his new movie Men In Black III. But lest you think the actor/musician is too focused on his movie career, Smith decided to perform the entire rap from Fresh Prince of Bel Air on BBC’s The Graham Norton Show.

Do you remember the song? This is basically required material for anyone who grew up in the ’90s (or with reruns). But in case you’ve forgotten, here’s the original version, which ran over the credits during the TV show.

As it turns out, Smith has definitely not forgotten the lyrics to the song, which was part of his breakout acting role. He told Norton, “Listen, every country in the world, that is the thing that I am most known for. Okay, we’ll admit that we’re a little disappointed that Bieber’s collaboration with Kanye West isn’t on the disc, but we are especially excited to hear the song “Right Here,” which features Drake. “He’s a great guy and super-talented, and his melodies are crazy,” Bieber told MTV News about his collaboration with Drizzy. “When we go into the studio, he’ll go in the booth and he’ll do some melodies and we’ll write.”

Bieber performed last night at the Billboard Music Awards, and judging by the show it seems as if he’s stepped up his dance moves over the past year as well. You’ll still have to wait until June 19th to hear the album, but you can view the full track list below.
